The_Earl_of_Grayson_1600x2400

Damien Archer, Earl of Grayson and Lady Charlotte Lawson are opposite in every way. Where his coloring is dark, she has blond tresses and blue eyes. Charlotte’s alabaster skin tone is a stark contrast to Damien’s sun-kissed tan. He is tall at six feet three inches while she is short at barely over five feet tall. Furthermore, her cheerful disposition is in stark contrast to his brooding nature. But most bothersome of all is his tendency to flaunt society’s rules while she follows them without fail.

Damien desires nothing more than to spend his time carousing, drinking, and gambling while Charlotte spends hers at afternoon teas, balls, and musicals. She is a true lady and he a determined rake. When their paths cross they have every reason to turn in the opposite direction, and yet they cannot seem to avoid one another. Passions flair, putting them both at risk. They stand not only to lose their reputations, but more importantly, their hearts.

Entice_by_Lady_Elianna_600x900Excerpt:

“London is calling for me.” Garrett rubbed his hand across his thigh, brushing away a bit of dust. If not for his interest in Miss Elianna the party would hold no appeal for him. He found the rituals of house parties rather tedious and the gaming, liquor, and loose women at this one in particular were in short supply.

It was his sense that she was in danger that drove his interest in her—the adventure and excitement of saving a damsel. He’d still intended to enjoy himself during the party, at the least partake in good gaming and a delectable widow on the side.

“The devil you say.” Aubry stomped his boot, dislodging a clump of straw from the stables. “I rather think it would suit you to find some enjoyment here. Perhaps a proper lady to court and wed?”

Garrett raised a brow in mock indignation. “Whoever needs that when London is full of improper ladies to bed?”

“London will kill you yet, old friend.”

Garrett grinned with amusement. “But what a way to go.”

“I can see the gossip column now.” He waved his hand out in front of himself. “Garrett Tumbly, Viscount Sinclair, perished last evening with a belly full of port and a widow beneath him after having spent several hours at a popular gaming hell.” Aubry chuckled.

The familiar figure of Miss Elianna near the rear of the house caught Garrett’s attention. She wore a deep green gown with gold accents—the same shade she’d worn on their previous meetings. Peculiar for any woman. In fact, he’d never meet one whose frocks all bore the same shade.

Come to think of it, the Berkly servants wore the same colors. Deep green and gold were the earl’s livery colors. But Miss Elianna was no servant. She was a companion to Lady Caroline. Or was she? Had the ladies deceived him? Was that her secret?

“Ugh.” A huff of air whooshed from him when Aubry jabbed his elbow into Garrett’s side. Recovered, he turned to his friend. “Take care, will you.”

“What interest do you have in that woman?” Aubry asked.

Garrett shot him a scathing look. “I met her in London along with Lady Caroline. Something about her caught my interest but not in the way you suppose.”

“Do you mean to tell me you’ve met a woman worth more to you than a quick tumble?” Aubry jested.

“Last night’s port must have gone directly to your head causing lasting damage.” He glanced back at Miss Elianna. “I have no wish to become romantically involved with anyone here. There is, however, something the girl is hiding, and I intend to figure out what it is.”

“The party is not so grand that we should have a hard time discovering more about her. Tell me what you have to go on?”

Garrett’s pulse increased as he watched Miss Elianna making her way across the lawn, toward the house. His opportunity to speak with her again shrank with each step she took. Before long she’d be out of sight and reach. He turned his attention back to Aubry. “Later. For now, you must excuse me.”

Aubry gave a nod.

Garrett turned to follow Miss Elianna intent on charming her further—on discovering at least a morsel about her. Bloody hell. The woman moved fast. He pursued the area, searching for her as he strode across the expanse of lawn between him and the residence. She could not have gotten far.

A streak of green skirts caught his eye disappearing into the veranda doors and he hurried his pace. Another few strides and he too entered the house.

“Lord Sinclair. How nice to see you.” Lady Caroline traipsed across the parlor, her hips swinging seductively.

He locked his gaze on Miss Elianna, who continued making her way across the room. “And you as well, Lady Caroline, though I fear I am in a hurry at the moment.”

She placed her hand boldly on his arm, stilling him. “Surely you have a moment for me.”

Reluctantly, he turned to regard her and offered a smile. A pout tugged at her lower lip while her eyes danced playfully. He should refrain from being rude. Devil take it! She should not be approaching him in such an unabashed and inappropriate way.

He shook his arm free. “Perhaps later.”

“Lord Sinclair,” Lady Caroline called after him, an edge in her tone.

It is not often we get to work with other authors that we admire and I have the double blessing of calling her friend as well.

This all started when I came across an article about female archer’s during the Regency and Victorian eras and posted it to Face Book saying that I wanted to write a lady archer. Within second’s Christina saw the post and messaged me about what a great idea it was, and before long we had come up with the Lady Archer’s Creed.

I just know you will love our lady archer’s as much as we do, so allow me to introduce you to Lady Georgina Seton:

Long Blurb

When all else fails, love succeeds…

Captain Fred Wheatly’s comfortable life on the fringes of Bengal comes crashing down around him when his mistress dies, leaving him with two children he never expected to have to raise. When he chooses justice over army regulations, he’s forced to resign his position, leaving him with no way to support his unexpected family. He’s already had enough failures in his life. The last thing he needs is an attractive, interfering woman bedeviling his steps, reminding him of his duties.

All widowed Clare Armbruster needs is her brother’s signature on a legal document to be free of her past. After a failed marriage, and still mourning the loss of a child, she’s had it up to her ears with the assumptions she doesn’t know how to take care of herself, that what she needs is a husband. She certainly doesn’t need a great lout of a captain who can’t figure out what to do with his daughters. If only the frightened little girls didn’t need her help so badly.

Clare has made mistakes in the past. Can she trust Fred now? Can she trust herself? Captain Wheatly isn’t ashamed of his aristocratic heritage, but he doesn’t need his family and they’ve certainly never needed him. But with no more military career and two half-caste daughters to support, Fred must turn once more—as a failure—to the family he let down so often in the past. Can two hearts rise above past failures to forge a future together?

Excerpt

Get control of yourself, Clare, a small part of her brain urged, dimly aware that exhaustion and relief made her foolish. She didn’t care. Just that moment his arms around her back and his shoulder firm beneath her cheek felt solid. Safe. Dependable.

“Easy, easy. It’s only a tent,” he soothed, one hand making gentle circles on her back.

“You thought about us. No one ever—” He had looked after her, she realized, from the moment he found her at the inn in Calcutta comforting his children. No man ever took care for my comfort before.

She took a shuddering breath. Dependable? This is Fred Wheatly holding you, the man who— She didn’t remember what just then. She felt his kiss on her head, then her ear.

She raised her head and his mouth came down on hers. The gentle kiss made no demands, forced no response, and asked only trust. No man had ever kissed her like that. She couldn’t resist him. When he withdrew to look down at her, she closed the distance and kissed him back, tasting sweat, sand, and male.

“Papa? Are we there?”

He broke off the kiss and tipped his forehead to hers, silent laugher rocking him. “We have come to a place. That much is certain,” he responded. Clare didn’t think he referred to the way station.

Author Interview

Caroline: Thanks so much for having me today, and for asking me these challenging questions! I’ll do my best to answer them.

Mandy: I’m thrilled to be chatting with you!

Q: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?

A: I was in college majoring in East Asian studies with an eye to a career in the Foreign Service when marriage intervened. My dreams changed, but even then writing lay deep in my soul. I always knew I’d return to it. I ended up with a long and satisfying career in public libraries and the information industry. Now I write full time.

Q: Are there any particular authors or books that have really inspired you?

A: Harper Lee, Mark Twain, Thomas B. Costain, Charlotte Bronte, Louisa May Alcott, and Pearl Buck were among my formative influences. As a teen I fell in love with the books of Dorothy Dunnett. She fired my imagination more than anyone ever has. Elizabeth Peters and Mary Stewart delighted me later. My go-to romance writers are Mary Balogh, Grace Burrowes, and Carla Kelly.

Q: Tell us a bit about your new release. Where did your inspiration for it come from?

A: The Reluctant Wife is Book 2 of a series. I had written a holiday novella, A Dangerous Nativity, about the hero’s older sister. Two brothers and a cousin appear in that one as boys intent on creating, amusingly enough, an all-animal nativity to the horror of the adults. I wondered what would happen to them as adults. The result was a new series in which each is the hero of his own book. At the beginning of Book 1 they were on three different continents, driven there by lies and deceit as much as by ambition and curiosity. I had to help each of them find their way home.

Q: What was the hardest part about writing it?

A: The hardest part is always getting to the hero’s inner core. What, deep down, is broken and needs to change? How will he recognize it? What will drive change? If I can figure that out early, I can drive the novel forward. In Fred’s case it is a sense that he has failed to protect his family in the past; that they are better off without him. It isn’t true, but he needs to see it for himself.

Q: Who’s your favorite character in it? (I know, I know, favoritism!)

A: The story opens with the hero facing the fact that he has been left with two half-caste daughters to raise on his own when his mistress dies. He has no clue what to do with them. In the course of writing the book I came to love the older one, Meghal, a precocious six year old. She pushes him to do what’s right when he is not sure what that is. She isn’t about to let him foist her care off onto his sister. She wants her Papa and will follow him anywhere.

Q: Why should we run out and buy it right now?

A: The story sweeps the reader from the edge of Bengal to Calcutta to the Suez and across the desert, to rural England while two people stumble into love in spite of themselves. It includes a meteor shower, steamboats, herbal remedies, and camels. The heroine is a courageous wounded duck. The hero is a clueless male with more honor than sense, who never stops trying to do the right thing. (Imagine his shock when he realizes people actually depend on him!) The villain, a vile man, makes the hero miserable in both India and England, but the hero defeats him—with a little help from family—in the end. The girls are utterly charming.

Q: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

A: Family may be messy and difficult, but it matters. At the end of the day we all need one another.

Q: Do you have a support network outside of your family members?

A: I couldn’t function without friends. I am particularly dependent on old friends from Central Ohio Fiction Writers who like to call themselves Great Escape Artists, and on the Bluestocking Belles, my online tribe. One kept me writing until I got it right and the other helps me survive promotion and marketing.

Q: Do you travel much concerning your book(s)?

A: Never enough! I have not been to India or Suez, as featured in the current one, but I’ve written two books just because I had been somewhere and wanted to use it as a setting. I once asked, “Can I write a Regency novel set in Rome?” Dangerous Secrets was the result. I’ve written others because I long to go there. The current one is an example of that. After I finished The Renegade Wife (Book 1 of the series) I went to Canada just to see the Rideau Canal for myself.

Q: What are you afraid of?

A: Boredom. Thank goodness for e-readers. I used to fear being caught somewhere without enough to read. I would fly with a backpack full of books.

Q: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?

A: British crime dramas are my favorites. I adored Foyle’s War and Granchester. I’m pretty much a sucker for any costume drama such as North and South, Poldark, Call the Midwife, or, of course, Downton Abbey. Notice they are all historical, but I am not picky about period. I had trouble with Outlander, mostly because I would rather not watch graphic violence.

Mandy: Wow! What great answers. Thank you so much for stopping by Musing by Mandy and please come hang out again soon 🙂

Scandalous Wallflower

Excerpt:

He glanced at the mussed bed, then raked his gaze over her body before meeting her eyes. “It seems you welcomed me with open legs, madam.”

The chill in his tone sliced through her. To think she was bemoaning the fact they had not made love mere minutes ago. Anger flared to life, burning her from the inside out. She jabbed finger into the bone and muscle of his chest. “That is an invitation you shall never receive from me! You are a blackguard unfit for the company of ladies.”

“If that is true, it is a damn good thing there are no ladies present.” He pulled his shirt over his head.

“There seems to be a shortage of gentleman as well.” She bent to retrieve his breeches before flinging them at him.

The door swung open behind her, spinning her around. To her horror, her brother and his wife had entered her room, worse still, the Countess of Bailey, an older woman renowned for her gossiping, stood wide-eyed in the hallway. The blood drained from Jane’s face as she averted her gaze to the pained glass window wishing she could fling herself out of it.

“Explain yourself,” her brother, Henry, demanded of Lord Keery. Claudia remained behind her husband, her hand on her chest and her mouth agape.

Jane’s heart pounded head spun with all the excuses she could make, but no words came. Nothing she could say would make any difference. She stood in the middle of her room in nothing more than a chemise with a more than half naked man. Hells bells! She was ruined. Her cheeks burned with embarrassment.

Claudia moved to the door and pushed it shut, closing off the Countess’s view as well as any other houseguests who may come upon them. “Do lower your voice, Henry. Is it your wish to see Jane ruined?”

“Keery has already seen to that, I daresay. Bloody hell, the countess stood witness to this…this atrocity.” His attention remained riveted on Lord Keery. “You took advantage of my sister. Have you nothing to say?”

Jane found her strength and rushed forward. “All is not as it appears. I swear it on my life.”

“Silence!” Henry bit the word out from between clenched teeth, his eyes burning with unsuppressed anger.

Jane pressed her lips together, but stood her ground. She could not allow Lord Keery to shoulder all of the blame for their predicament—not when she’d been a willing accomplice.

Henry removed his glove and slapped it across Lord Keery’s cheek. “I challenge you to a duel.”

Lord Keery stepped back to lean casually against the dressing table. “There is no need for that, Shillington, for I intend to do right by your sister.”

Jane’s stomach lurched as she took in his words. Doing right by her could only mean one thing. Lord Keery wanted to marry her. An hour ago, she would have thrilled, but now the prospect terrified her. She fought through the fog and pinned Keery with her gaze. “I would not marry this scoundrel were he the last man on earth.”

Her brother jumped in, his gaze as condemning as her own. “You forfeited any say in the matter, dear sister, the moment he entered your chamber.”

Keery shook out his wrinkled breeches. “I will procure a special license right away.” He pulled them on, tucked in his linen shirt, and secured them. “Just as soon as I find the remainder of my clothing.”

Jane fisted her hands, wanting to scream. How could he be so casual? His nonchalance further enraged her. He no more wanted to wed her than she wanted a rogue with the manners of a wild boar for a husband. Fuming and flustered, she went about the room collecting his garments before pushing them against his chest. “Do not bother. I refuse to marry you, regardless of what my brother demands.” Even as the words left her mouth, she knew they were untrue. She could not refuse his offer when doing so would bring shame upon her entire family.

Henry took hold of her arm and gave a gentle shake. “That is quite enough, Jane. You will marry Keery. Not another word from you unless it is ‘I do’.”

Lord Keery, clothing in hand, moved toward the door. Before he took his leave, he turned back and flashed her a rakish grin. “It seems you do not have a choice in the matter, my future bride.”

Jane was perplexed and enraged by his contradictory behavior. Why offer her marriage to save her reputation one moment only to ruin her good name the next moment by leaving her room in so shocking a state of undress? “Surely you do not intend to go out there like that.”

His mouth hitched up into a devilish grin. “Whyever not, when you are already compromised?”

And, at that, he took his leave.

The Duke’s Accidental Wife by Erica Ridley: Miss Katherine Ross keeps clashing with the insufferably emotionless Duke of Ravenwood. She’s convinced his heart is ice — until she touches that chiseled chest for herself. One lapse in judgment is all it takes to turn both their lives topsy-turvy…

Love with an Improper Stranger by Barbara Devlin: When notoriously hotheaded Nautionnier Knight Blake Elliott, fifth Duke of Rylan, volunteers for a mission, his magnanimous gesture does not include acting as nanny to a couple of blushing sisters. Adding to her mounting problems, her appointed guardian, ordered her to relocate to America where she must remain until she comes of age.

Sparks fly as the pair find themselves at odds with each other and drawn to each other at the same time. Can they find a way to stop arguing long enough to explore their growing passion?

Scandalous Intentions

When faced with losing his father’s support, notorious rake Lord Julian Luvington sets his sights on Lady Sarah. She is as respectable as they come, just what his father ordered. But the lady shall not be easily won.

Lady Sarah Roseington is determined to marry for love or not at all, and she will do anything to obtain the freedom granted to men. A blackguard like Lord Luvington could destroy her hard-won reputation, but marriage to him also offers her the opportunities she cannot achieve on her own.

When Lord Luvington refuses to abandon his pursuit, Lady Sarah proposes an arrangement. Only the price may be more than either bargained for. Lady Sarah could lose more than her social standing and Julian could lose his heart.

Scandalous Redemption

Ruined by scandal, Claudia Akford survived years of marriage to a cruel brute. Widowed, she is determined to regain her standing in society, but Lord Shillington personifies temptation. Kind and gentle, yet masculine and sinfully handsome, he would make the perfect lover, but he wants more than she is willing to give.

While Henry Shillington knows a little of the beautiful but notorious Lady Claudia Akford, he is struck by her kindhearted, accomplished, and witty demeanor. The more time he spends in her company, the more he dreams of a future with her. But the lady resists his honorable overtures, and a mistress will never do for him.

Can two wary people overcome past hurts, an old scandal, and social strictures to embrace true love?

“Witty, clever, and fast-paced, Amanda Mariel’s”Scandalous Intentions” is a must read full of passion and emotion!” ~ USAToday Bestselling Author Christi Caldwell

“Scandalous Redemption by Amanda Mariel is another amazing book. Once again in a story set in London, Amanda Mariel gives you more characters that you can relate to and a world where you take a step back in time and get a glimpse of the beauty, and unfortunately, the ugliness. I cried when Henry and Claudia felt that things were hopeless and I cheered for them as they slowly started to realize that things could work out the way they wanted.” ~Readers Favorite readersfavorite.com/search.htm?searchword=amanda+mariel&searchwordsugg=&option=com_search&searchphrase=exact

Release Date: December 1, 2016

Length: 30k/ novella

Heat Rating: 2

Genre: Historical Romance, Regency

 Blurb:

What happens when an American heiress to a shipping company crosses paths with a pirate?

Miss Prudence Drake desires nothing more than to return to America and pick up the pieces of her life. After being held captive on the Black Dawn and witnessing her papa’s murder, the last thing she wants is to find herself in the hands of another pirate-even if he is handsome and honorable.

Captain Jasper Blackmore has forsaken his past, walking away from England’s shores in search of a new adventure after the war left him physically scarred and jilted by the one lady he dared to love. An American hoyden could never fit into his world despite his attraction to her.

Can two people whose life paths are at odds find common ground?

Excerpt:

At the rustle of a key turning in the lock, she let go of the map and turned in the chair to face the entrance. The door swung open and Jasper stared at her. She fought the urge to look away but, instead, met his gaze. It would not kill her to be amiable. Perchance it may even benefit her. “Thank you for sending me the change of clothes.”

“The ship’s gunner will mend your gown so you have it when you depart.”

“That is not necessary. Discard it.” She smiled at the surprise her words ignited in his ice blue eyes. Had he expected her to be vexed over her new wardrobe?

“As you wish.” He leaned his hip on the edge of the desk.

“Can you tell me where we are exactly?” She pointed to America on the map. “I would like to know how far I am from home.”

He glanced from her to the document. “You know how to read maps?”

“I am an educated woman, Captain.”

He chuckled. “I do not doubt it, and, as I told you previously, you have leave to call me Jasper when we’re alone.” A mild irritation laced his voice.

She nodded but had no intention of ever using his given name. The act was far too intimate. He was a pirate for God’s sake. She had no desire to befriend him. Pirates murdered her father and Louisa. She traced the puckered scar on his cheek with her gaze. Had he received any new injuries saving her?

Captain Blackmore murdered the pirates who captured her—avenged her father and rescued her. He risked his life in battle. Still, she could not allow herself to see him as more than the enemy, not even if she wished to.

“It has been my experience that women generally do not read maps. Who taught you?” He opened a drawer and retrieved a bottle of amber-colored liquid along with two glasses.

She watched as he poured some into a glass all the while attempting to decide whether she should answer his question. It would not do for a pirate to know she was a wealthy shipping company owner. She certainly could not allow him to discover that her company was without protection. He must not learn of her father’s death. If he did her company would be vulnerable to him and his crew.

Jasper offered her a glass. “Thirsty?”

“No.” She held up a hand in protest. “Thank you.”

He pressed the glass into her hand anyway. “Have a little. After the day you’ve had, I am sure you are parched. Besides, spirits are good for drowning one’s sorrows.”

She accepted and took a small sip. The liquor burned down her throat but she did not choke on it. “What is it?”

“Brandy. Have you never drank it before?”

“No. I have had watered down wine and champagne on occasion, but Papa never allowed me liquor. It is not proper for a lady to imbibe in stronger drinks, but then I do not suppose a pirate would care about propriety.” Emboldened, she took another sip before setting the glass aside. “Now answer my question. Where are we?”
