She was a fallen woman when she met them. How can they help her fall on her feet?

Book Blurb

Becky is the envy of the courtesans of the demi-monde – the indulged mistress of the wealthy and charismatic Marquis of Aldridge. But she dreams of a normal life; one in which her daughter can have a future that does not depend on beauty, sex, and the whims of a man.

Finding herself with child, she hesitates to tell Aldridge. Will he cast her off, send her away, or keep her and condemn another child to this uncertain shadow world?

The devil-may-care face Hugh shows to the world hides a desperate sorrow; a sorrow he tries to drown with drink and riotous living. His years at war haunt him, but even more, he doesn’t want to think about the illness that robbed him of the ability to father a son. When he dies, his barony will die with him. His title will fall into abeyance, and his estate will be scooped up by the Crown.

When Aldridge surprises them both with a daring proposition, they do not expect love to be part of the bargain.

Excerpts

Excerpt 1 (391 words)

Aldridge never did find out how he came to be naked, alone, and sleeping in the small summerhouse in the garden of a country cottage. His last memory of the night before had him twenty miles away, and—although not dressed—in a comfortable bed, and in company.

The first time he woke, he had no idea how far he’d come, but the moonlight was bright enough to show him half-trellised window openings, and an archway leading down a short flight of steps into a garden. A house loomed a few hundred feet away, a dark shape against the star-bright sky. But getting up seemed like too much trouble, particularly with a headache that seemed to hang inches above him, threatening to split his head if he moved. The cushioned bench on which he lay invited him to shut his eyes and go back to sleep. Time enough to find out where he was in the morning.

When he woke again, he was facing away from the archway entrance, and there was someone behind him. Silence now, but in his memory the sound of light footsteps shifting the stones on the path outside, followed by twin intakes of breath as the walkers saw him.

One of them spoke; a woman’s voice, but low—almost husky. “Sarah, go back to the first rose bush and watch the house.”

“Yes, mama.” A child’s voice.

Aldridge waited until he heard the child dance lightly down the steps and away along the path, then shifted his weight slightly so that his pelvis flattened, dragging the rest of his torso over till he was lying on his back.

He waited for the exclamation of shock, but none came. Carefully— he wanted to observe her before he let her know he was awake, and anyway, any sudden movement might start up the hammers above his eye sockets—he cracked open his lids enough so to watch through his lashes.

He could see more than he expected. The woman had a shuttered lantern she was using to examine him, starting at his feet. She paused so long when she reached his morning salute that it grew even prouder, then swept the beam from the lantern up his torso so quickly he barely had time to slam his lids shut before the light reached and lingered over his face.

With Dreams Only Of You

61NBt+bf2-L__SY383_BO1,204,203,200_This set kept me up late every night because I simply couldn’t put it down! Kathryn Le Veque’s prologue tugged at my heart and made me feel a deep down need to continue reading. Her story that followed did not leave me disappointed. Susan Tisdale’s contribution was gripping! I loved the characters and the banter between them. Josephine stole my heart. I got a huge kick out of the way she hid her smarts from Graeme and let him make a fool out of himself-well deserved I might add! Eliza Knight’s Max and Sebastian were perfect together. The flirtation and playfulness drew me right in and made me root for them. I adored Cynthia Wright’s Sea Rogue and found the Russian heroine to be a great twist to the tail. Christi Caldwell’s story gripped my heart. I love the way she makes her characters so real, flawed yet perfect. The way Theodosia went after what she believed to be hers and how she stood up to the devil duke. These two were made for each other. Eva Devon’s story brought a wonderful end to the set and the legend. I found the way she tied it all up very satisfying and thought the way she mentioned earlier characters to be brilliant. This is a must read! It is truly no wonder that this set made the USA Today bestseller list. It will capture your imagination, keep you reading, and leave you satisfied. I have no doubt that it will live in my mind for a long time into the future.

Ink Drop Interviews & Reviews

Today I welcome Amanda Mariel, author of several titles including Scandalous Endeavors and her more recent Scandalous Intentions, both from the Ladies and Scoundrels series.

IDI – Welcome Amanda. First I want to mention the cover for Scandalous Intentions. It was illustrated by Magali Frechette and it’s gorgeous. Moving on, it’s been said that we all draw from within and I believe there is an element of ‘us’ in everything we write. How much of you will a reader find in any given book?

Scandalous Endeavors Scandalous Endeavors

AM – I pour my heart and soul into every book I write. Scandalous Endeavors is very close to me for three reasons. It was my first word baby, the opening chapter is based on my real life emotions after a loss, and the heroine is based closely on my little sisters’ personality and actions up until the last third of the book. Blurb:

Vitoria Miene lives in New York—on the opposite side of the country as her best friend. After careful thought, she decides to pack everything up and move to Seattle. There is only one problem with her plan—Wes Novak. He hates her and does everything in his power to make her miserable.

Wes has never detested anyone as much as he does Vitoria. He believes she is evil incarnate. If she wasn’t best friends with his brother’s fiancée, he’d never have to see her again. Unfortunately he sees more of her than he wants to. So much so, he is starting to have trouble keeping his hands off her.

Wes and Tori fight every step of the way. They combust in each other’s arms as much as they bicker. Can they stop battling long enough to find the one thing they both want—love?

Excerpt

“What the hell are you doing in my room?” A horrified expression fell across Vitoria’s beautiful heart-shaped face. She stood just outside the bathroom door with only a towel draped around her slender frame. Her hair fell around her shoulders in wet, dark-blonde ringlets.

Wes lounged on the bed, his back resting against the headboard, and his legs crossed at his feet. He lifted his arms and folded them behind his neck as his eyes traveled down Vitoria’s body from top to bottom. She’d sent him on a bit of a wild-goose chase.

When he realized she wasn’t following him, anger soared through his veins. He stormed back into the airport but had no luck locating her through the crowd of people. He turned around, toting her luggage back to his vehicle. He tossed it in the trunk and started making calls to figure out where she could have run off to.

“Isn’t it obvious?” he asked.

Tori flashed him an irritated look as she made unmistakable movements to tighten the towel around her body. “Evidently not, since I asked you why you’re here.”

“I brought you your luggage. You ran off without it.”

“If you hadn’t hijacked it, I’d already have it.” Vitoria paused and gave him a scathing look “You can leave anytime.”

“And deprive you of your righteous indignation? Why ever would I do that?” Wes fought to hide a smile of triumph. He liked the feeling of one upping her.

Vitoria glared at him and stomped over to her suitcase. She rummaged through the contents picking out a few things placing them on the bed.

Wes studied her, trying to figure her out.

She was so achingly beautiful it almost hurt to look at her. He hated all the unwanted emotions welling up inside of him each time he was forced to spend time with her. If Ginnifer hadn’t asked him to pick her up from the airport, he would have done everything in his power to avoid her. Instead, he found himself watching her wander around a hotel room, half naked. Hell, there was no half about it. Only a towel stood between her and complete nudity. One little slip and the towel would showcase her in all her glory.

“So are you ignoring me now?” he asked.

“No. I just have better things to do than talk to you.”

“Such as?”

“None of your business.” She flipped the suitcase shut and zipped it before pushing it off the bed. A loud thud filled the room as it hit the floor. “Why are you still here?”

“Because Ginnifer asked me to pick you up and take you back to Novak Springs. I made a promise and I intend to keep it.”

Vitoria rolled her eyes.

Wes struggled to force a smug, satisfied smile down to a firm flat line. He wished he didn’t find her so damned sexy. Watching her traipse around the hotel room only wearing a skimpy towel was playing havoc on his libido.

A tiny droplet of water trailed down her shoulder blades and left a stream of water in its wake. He wanted to lick the moisture off her back and taste her glistening skin. He squashed the temptation down before he acted on it. Wes refused to get involved with such a traitorous witch like Vitoria Miene.

“You don’t need to wait around, Wes. I have no plans on going to Novak Springs right now. I have a few things to do in Seattle first. Don’t worry. I will let Ginny know.”

Wes sat silent, still leaning against the headboard.

“I’m serious. You need to leave. How did you get in my room anyway?”

“When I explained to the nice front-desk worker how I got separated from my fiancée, she was more than happy to give me a room key. I showed her your luggage and begged her to please save me from your wrath. She didn’t want me to fall victim to your rage, so she took pity on my situation.”

“You charmed my room key out of some poor unsuspecting woman?” Vitoria had a baffled expression on her face. Her mouth gaped as her eyes widened in surprise.

“What can I say? Women like me.”
